Interesting fact from the past

The first Croatian olimpic medal winner
At the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris, Milan Neralić won the first Olympic medal as a contestant of Croatian descent. He was born in Slunj on 26th February 1875. He was educated at the Military fencing masters school in Wiener Neustadt, where he showed perseverance and unwavering will to master the techniques of fencing. From 1901 to 1908 he worked as the head instructor at the school of fencing. He spent most of his life in Berlin and Vienna. He died in Wiener Neustadt on 17th February 1918.

The old town Slovin

The medieval town of Slunj was first mentioned in written documents in 1390. It was originally built as the residence of the feudal Krk Counts (the noble Frankopan family), as a polygonal heptagonal building.

The Napoleon magazine

The French rule was an interesting period for the area of Slunj and Rastoke, which was the eastern border part of Napoleon’s Empire.

Turbulent history

In historical sources, Slunj is first mentioned in 1390 as a fortified city.
